Key Looks Autumn / Winter 2011

How to wake up your fall 2011 wardrobe? Designers thought you need to have a little shimmer this season in the form of metallics, beading and sparkle. The best news is that both gold and silver are good this season so you can pick your most flattering metallic.
How to wear it: No need to save your shimmer for nighttime. Even serious tweed suits can boast a metallic thread. Or wear shimmer in the form of sparkle with jeans for a great mix of daytime and nighttime. Although designers mixed loads of shimmer together, the easiest way to wear shimmer is to wear one piece at a time.

Remember this '80s classic, colourblocking? Designers like Max Mara brought back chunks of colour this season.
How to wear it: There are several different ways to wear colourblocking. One is to buy it premade: the fabric is made in blocks of colour combinations (either in colour blocks or colour splicing.) The other way is to make your own colourblocking by wearing different coloured separates (like a red skirt a royal shirt and a yellow coat.) Either way, let the colourblocking be the main attraction: keep accessories to a minimum and keep all the other pieces in solid (too much going on with colourblocking to bring in a distracting print.)

From fun stripes to seriously chunky knits, turtlenecks have come back to the runways in full force.
How to wear it: Who doesn't love a great turtleneck? Wear it layered under jackets or belt your chunkier knits for an updated look. Turtlenecks too constraining for you? Try the easier version, the cowl neck.

Black lace -- dresses, tops and skirts -- is the perfect feminine accent to show a little skin (and a lot of chic.)
How to wear it: You may think of black lace as strictly for the holidays (or the bedroom.) But done right, it's sexy and chic at the same time. Pair a black lace blouse with a slim pencil skirt for an updated cocktail look or pair a lace cami or blouse with a menswear pantsuit.
